Police have arrested a 26-year-old man and charged him with murder after a fatal stabbing in Sydney’s north-west on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to a home in Quakers Hill about 8.25pm on Friday and found a 28-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest.

He was treated by paramedics and rushed to hospital in a critical condition but died before he arrived. Police believe he was stabbed while visiting a home on Narcissus Avenue just before 8.30pm.

“We believe that the man went to the address willingly and something has occurred inside the premises,” Detective Superintendent Scott Bingham told reporters on Saturday.

“We know at this stage, that this is not a random attack.”

Officers attached to Riverstone Police Area Command found him collapsed and bleeding on a neighbour’s porch.

Detectives spent the weekend searching the home where the man was allegedly stabbed and combing CCTV footage from the area.

About 1.35pm on Sunday, police stopped a vehicle on Nipper Street, Strathfield and arrested a 26-year-old man.

The weekend saw a wave of knife crime, including the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Dubbo on Friday night. Police arrested a 26-year-old Dubbo man on Saturday and charged him with murder.

In another separate incident which made for the third stabbing in 24 hours, a 37-year-old man was stabbed in Broken Hill on Friday and taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious condition.

Police subsequently arrested a 29-year-old man and charged him with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
